Kangana Ranaut’s 'Emergency' to Premiere in January: A Riveting Portrayal of Indira Gandhi’s Tumultuous Era

Kangana Ranaut's Indira Gandhi Biopic "Emergency" to Release on January 17, 2025

After several delays and controversies, Kangana Ranaut's much-anticipated biopic on former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, titled "Emergency," is finally set to release on January 17, 2025. The film chronicles the 21-month Emergency period from 1975 to 1977, a critical and controversial chapter in India's political history.

Kangana Ranaut, who stars as Indira Gandhi, has also directed and co-produced the film. The movie features a star-studded cast including Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, Milind Soman, and the late Satish Kaushik in key roles. The film explores the complexities and challenges faced by Indira Gandhi during the Emergency, a time when civil liberties were suspended, and political opponents were arrested.

The journey to the big screen has not been smooth. The film faced multiple postponements, initially slated for release in November 2023, then June 2024, and later September 2024. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) initially denied the film's certification due to objections from Sikh organizations and other political groups. Kangana alleged that the delays were due to external pressures and threats made against CBFC members.

Despite these challenges, Kangana remained committed to bringing this important story to the audience. The film received its censor certificate in October 2024, and Kangana announced the new release date on social media, expressing her excitement and gratitude for the support of her fans.

"Emergency" is expected to spark discussions and debates about a defining moment in Indian politics. As the nation eagerly awaits its release, all eyes are on Kangana and her team to deliver a compelling narrative of the Emergency period.
